The eyes are the most important feature of the face. When eyes appear tired and wrinkled, they often make a person look older than they really are. The earliest signs of aging are in the eyelids. The skin of the eyelids stretches out. Fat tissue that surrounds the eyes can bulge and create a puffy, old, and tired appearance. Excessively sagging skin may obstruct vision. Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, removes fat deposits, or "bags", and loose skin of the upper and lower eyelid. The so-called "eyelift" can either be done on the upper or lower eyelids separately or on both at the same time. If it is done separately then the upper eyelid is operated on first.
The essence of the procedure is to release the forehead skin with subcutaneous tissue via small incisions in the scalp, in combination with specially anchored stitches above the eyebrow. This procedure can be performed endoscopically. An alternative procedure can be the removal of excess skin above the eyebrows, thereby lifting it. A larger procedure is the surgery via coronary section, stretching forehead muscle and removing excess skin with subcutaneous tissue. The surgery is performed under local or general anaesthesia. If the surgery is a part of a larger eyebrow procedure, it is performed under general anaesthesia
You will need to stay at home for at least three days, keep your head slightly elevated and apply cold compresses to help reduce swelling. Refrain from heavy physical activity and sudden motions of the head. For additional two weeks it is recommended to wear sunglasses to protect the eyes from the sun, wind, and irritation. Sutures are removed a few days after the surgery. The operation is usually well tolerated and potential mild discomfort is kept under control by medication.
The results are usually enormous. Following an eyelid-lift, the eyes are immediately transformed. Youthful eyes that appear wide-awake are the desired result of an eyelid-lift.
